In Java programming, an interface is a reference type, similar to a class, that can contain only constants, method signatures, default methods, static methods, and nested types. Interfaces cannot contain instance fields or constructors. The methods in interfaces are abstract by default, which means they do not have a body and must be implemented by classes that choose to implement the interface.<\/p>\n

Interfaces are used to define a contract for what classes can do, without specifying how they should do it. This allows for the implementation of multiple inheritance in Java, where a class can implement multiple interfaces. Interfaces are a key component of the Java programming language and are used extensively in the Java API, including in the collections framework and event handling.<\/p>\n

What is Interface in Java?<\/h2>\n

An interface in Java is usually referred to as the \u201cBlueprint of a Class\u201d. This means that by looking at an interface, we can predict the behavior of the classes that will implement this interface.<\/p>\n

Interfaces are used to achieve abstraction in Java. Abstraction is one of the major pillars of Object-Oriented Programming Systems (OOPS). <\/p>\n

If we go into the definition of an interface, we can say that an interface in Java is an abstract type used to show the behavior of a class as it acts like a blueprint for the classes that implement it.<\/p>\n

The classes are inherited whereas, the interfaces are implemented. The interfaces in Java represent the HAS-A relationship.<\/p>\n

An interface is just like a class. It can have methods and data members. However, by default, all the methods<\/strong> in an interface are abstract<\/strong> i.e. they don\u2019t have a body. Also, all the data members<\/strong> are final and static<\/strong>, by default.<\/p>\n

Since in an interface, the methods are abstract, we cannot instantiate an interface. This means that the object of an interface cannot be created.<\/strong><\/p>\n
